How do I get closed captioning with the HDMI cable?

I have a DirecTV HD box connected to my Samsung 50" HDTV. When I use the HDMI input from the DirecTV box I get no closed captioning no matter what options I choose. So I tried connecting an S-video cable cable from the box to the TV and I get the closed captioning. Can you not get Closed Captioning with HDMI?

You should be able to. It might not be passing through the HDMI.

you are activating the CC on your directv box right? not on the TV?
