how do I get at compaq bios and boot from CD-ROM??

Hi, I just picked up a compaq pressario CDS 744 but I can't get at the bios. Is there something special you have to do to get at it? When you start the computer up it just goes right into windows (until I wipped out the HDD), no option to hit the delete key or anything.

Also, whats the trick to getting one of these computers to boot from the CD-ROM? Mine doesn't seem to want to recognize the CD-ROM. Now that i wiped out the OS I want to install a different one but it won't allow me to boot from CD-ROM.
