Just as the title says, I'm looking to buy for example 1000 shares of Intel/AMD/MS or whatever stocks. What is required to do such? I want the EASIEST way possible, and hopefully the easiest will be the cheapest 🙂

Is it something I can do online?? I think i've seen some companys advertise it?? Or am I thinking wrong?

you can open a scottrade account mostly online, i think you may have to mail some paperwork in.
once its open you fund your account with a minimum of $500, then you place an order online.
pretty easy actually

Choose an online broker, such as Ameritrade, ETrade, Schwab, and others. Once you fill out their online forms, they will allow you to deposit money into it. If you have a banking account with another institution (e.g. Bank of America or Washington Mutual), you can transfer money into your broker account electronically (see the broker's instructions, but basically you fill out another online form with your bank's routing number and account number).

At this point, you have some money in your brokerage account. Now you can buy and sell shares of whatever companies you like. Aside from the obvious dangers of putting money into bad investments, you need to watch out for the following:

1. Different brokerages charge different fees for each sell/buy of stocks. Etrade is around $10/trade, which is near the low end.
2. If you sell a stock for a profit, you have to pay yearly tax on it (called capital gains tax). If you hold a stock for a long period of time (I think it's like 9 months) and then sell, you pay less tax.

Does anyone know the best online company to use? IE, good service, cheap 🙂, and such?

Thanks alot for the info 🙂

Easiest, onlione broker
Cheapest: see if the company has a DRIP.

I suggest Ameritrade. And if it's your first stock, go after soemthing stacble, like JP or O or ABC or WM or FITB. SOmething with a nice yield that will not cause stress 😉 JP is probably the best option in regards to this.

Here's where I started many years ago:

Motley fool website

Good luck. Investing is the only way to build wealth for the common folk like us.

1000 shares of INTC @ 21.28 = $21,280
1000 shares of AMD @ 36.77 = $36,770
1000 shares of MSFT @ 26.28 = $26,280

or buy IGW - contains INTC and AMD

or buy XLK - contains INTC and MSFT

Scottrade costs $7/trade
Schwab costs $14/trade.

What, you don't like putting $21-57,000 into just 2 stocks? It is a little less risky than heading to Vegas and putting it all on black.

See guys, I'm not a cult member. I don't always suggest people go to vanguard.com and buy VFINX index fund shares instead.

Oh wait I just did. d'oh!

Reminds me of the Futurama episode where the giant brains attacked earth and used their stupifaction ray on everyone.

Fry: What are we going to do?
Professor: Duh, I know, let's play the lottery.
Amy: No, let's buy internet stock.
Zoidberg: On margin! Zoidbee wants to buy on margin.

🙂

I use Ameritrade, they have some pretty good tools available for the basic account, and Apex is a very good set of tools. It's also free if you have a high enough balance in your account 😀
