Yes you can map in Win98. Right-click NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD. Map Network Drive.
If you are just talking about a bunch of shared computers, with no server. Than you will have to map drives at each individual PC. I haven't done this in an XP setting, but from my experience in networks without a server, the computers that have the shared mapped drives will need to be on in order for the drive to be "seen" at bootup. Otherwise it will delay bootup and you will be asked whether to map to this drive the next time you logon.
o theres a server here, i got it just mapped every user, ok now ill go mess with the 98 comp because it doesnt seem to want to browse the network, yet it can access the internet and everything, be pinged, etc. from everywhere.
make sure it's in the same workgroup. That little setting used to slip my mind and I'd spend 1/2 an hour trying to figure out what was going on before I'd remember.
