Again, I am considering getting a cat, but this is for my friend who just got one :) The kitten is 8 weeks old and she just got it :) She lives in a 1 bedroom apartment, and we were wondering how she can get her to use the litter box? Please hit your "Back" button if you are a cat hater.

Thanks :)

Do what I do, during the first week, lock the kitten in the bathroom with the box.... works everytime.

Don't forget to close the toilet lid.

put the kitten in the box (make sure it is low enough to the ground that they can step in it.

take kittens paws and move them around to simulate digging. If you want to try to get them to go then wipe their little hiny with a warm towel/cloth (simulates mother licking them)

LOL! yep, thats how. if you have the time, put them in the litter box several times an hour.

when I got my kittens they were 6 weeks old and I put the litter box down and they just went to it and did their business. Didn't have to train them at all

Yeah, that works most of the time.

Yeah, that works most of the time.

they don't need much encouragement. They just need to know where it is.

Same here no training, the natural sense just told them where to go, they look to dig and stuff so they found it.

I think in general, if a cat has spent sufficient time with its mother, it won't need any training at all. I have owned or lived with at least 6 different cats, and none has required any training whatsoever. Be sure to play with it a lot if you want a big, strapping athlete like Vito (see my sig)!

Is it possible to train little dogs to use the litter box? You know, the little ones that are as big as cats.

I've heard you should demonstrate it for the kitten -- show them how to do it. It's embarassing yet effective.

When my wife brought home our kitten, I just setup the litterbox and after about ten minutes I just set her in it and she squated. Since then no problems.

Although there was a time when she started going in our houseplants because of the dirt, so we did have to lock the cat in the bathroom for a few days with the litterbox as mentioned above, and also put cayenne pepper on the mulch in the potted plants. Her urine/poop managed to kill a grapefruit tree I had been growing for about 5 years. :(

I just showed our 7 week old kitten where it was a few times. She's never gone anywhere else and we've had her a year now. Cats instinctively want to bury their waste, so you don't actually have to train them to do anything.

Hey Vito, thats a nice cat. He looks huge.

How do you get an older Cat (3 yrs) to start reusing the litter box again? We have 2 cats and the younger one, who is litter trained, started regressing to other duty locations.

She is a good cat and they have separate boxes that are kept cleaned. But for some reason she started going #2 on the hall floor. She also started preferring to go outside in the small flower garden around the pool.

Do I need to get her a kitty shrink?
