I want a nice cushy fed job, along with all the benefits nice cushy fed jobs bring with them.

Where do I search for em?

New York City. Got to be a decent amount of them around here. Hell, I'll work for the IRS for all I care.

You want that nice cushy $25,000-$30,00/year salary that comes with a federal job? Most of the federal employees I work with, either hate their job for being overworked and under paid or couldn't get a job as a janitor.

90% of the jobs out there. Now mind you, that's if you have experience and/or a BA/BS or a masters. Otherwise, you might be qualified for a GS-5 job @ $20,000/year. And, if you're lucky, in 5-10 years you'll be making about 10-15% more than you started out at.

$30,000/year can probably be made at McDonalds in NYC.

I always got the opposite impression. Federal desk jobs pay a lot, require you to do little and are ridiculously secure.

Well here are the pay tables: GS Pay Tables

Most jobs are GS-6 - GS-7. With a bit of ass kissing and a long time in the system, you should be able to get GS-9. Everyone has the impression that they're cushy jobs. It's the friggen Federal Government you're working for! They could screw up a wet dream! I take home twice as much in the military than my civilian GS-8 counterpart does.

The main perk of a gubment job is security. I never worry about losing my job. (Worried about dying in a biological attack in the middle of the desert, but never worried about getting fired.) :p

Military pay is a complex and mystical sort of pay. GS pay is easier because you don't get all the bennies. I live very comfortably as a single guy.

Depends a lot on what your field is. I'm a student still so I'm a GS-05 Step 2 which is $27,000/year, but most of the engineers I work with are GS-12, 13, or 14 which are about $57,000 and upwards. If you can stand making a little less than you would in private industry it's worth it because the environment is significantly more relaxed in my experience(I have worked in the private sector also in engineering)

That kind of job would be perfect for a non-hacker like you.

BTW, I worked in a civil service job for 5 years. I hated it. I wanted to murder everybody I worked with. If you enjoy working with absolute worthless human scum you will be very happy.

You can check my posts to see what kind of work I do now.

Thank youk thank you very much.

My mother started as a messenger at Labor Department in the Federal Government 31 years ago. She now is in the SES with a six-figure income. It can take awhile, but it has GREAT benefits, VERY secure, and you'll move up if you stick with it.

Yeah, they need a good technician to fix it! Since it is OPM site, weekends are probably min-manned.

Server is down...bummer.

Good site though. Tons of jobs!

BWHAHA

The government is still trying to replace computers from the 60s in some areas because of funding. Guess what, they arent behind in doing that because of paying their employees too much. Private industry is far better except in special circumstances, and then it is usually because some of the work onlyy exists in government.
