How do I forward ports on a Multi Router setup?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to forward ports for a Playstation 3 and a PC that is connected to one router, that router is connected to another router which is connected to the Modem.

The two routers already have different IPs, and I am able to logon to the setup menu on both routers.

Now my question is, how do I forward a port for a unit plugged into the second router? Do I go into the main router and forward the second router's IP? Or do I forward the IP of the unit that is plugged into the second router? I've actually tried both, but it didn't seem to work. I was hoping you network gurus could help me out.

Any help regarding this issue would really be appreciated

Why are you using the other router? There isn't any need to, best to just get rid of it or not use it as a router - meaning don't connect anything to the WAN port.

But if you really want to make it complicated...
outside router is the one closet to your modem, inside router is the one the PS3 is connected to.

1) outside router - forward the ports to the WAN address of the inside router
2) outside router - add a static route for the inside router's LAN network and mask, the next hop will be the WAN address of the inside router
3) inside router - forward the ports needed to the inside lan addresses needed.

I'd like to make it as simple as possible, and I'm thinking the best way to do that is just to get a switch.

This is my parent's home, and my little brother has his PC, XBOX 360, DVR, and Playstation 3 hooked up to the second router. I had a second router laying around my Condo, and I figured I would give this a shot before spending the 20-30 on a switch. This home is prewired to have each room have one network access, so I plugged the router into that, and this is where I'm at now.

By "outside router" I take it you mean the second router, the one not plugged into the modem?

I appreciate the help.

In that case, just turn off DHCP on any router you want to use as a switch and do not use the WAN port. Essentially only using it as a switch.

Excuse my ignorance, but when you say do not use the WAN port, I'm assuming that's the port labeled internet, then how do I connect the router to the other router? Which port do I choose?

Also, if I turn the second router into a switch, can I assign/manage IPs using the main router?

Any port that isnt the WAN port...typically any switch port.

indeed

Alright, well I tried to follow the directions that are in everyone's posts, but I seem to be missing something.

If you guys could walk me through from the start, lets say I reset the second router and everything is set to default, with the Router IP being 192.168.1.1, what steps do I need to do to get this router working as a switch?

The router is a linksys WRT350N

This is what I have so far

Under Basic Setup

Internet Setup
Internet Connection Automatic Configuration - DHCP

Network Setup
IP Address - 192.168.2.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server Setting Disabled

I have port One on the main router going to port one of the second Router? Is that right? Seems wrong to me, but that's the gist of what I'm reading, since it was posted that I shouldn't use the WAN/Internet port? Am I suppose to be using a crossover netowork cable? Cause I'm not. I apologize for my ignorance.

are you getting link lights for port 1 on both routers? you shouldnt need a crossover as the WRT350N is gigabit and auto-sensing on all ports.

can you elaborate on what you're seeing? are you getting a DHCP address on router 2? what about router 1? if so, can you ping the management addresses of the router, other hosts, websites, etc?
