How do I force 32bit in Half-Life?

Well I think there is a command it's -bpp 32 in your HL command line.

I didn't know about that Darkangel. So you mean it doesn't look any different? What about performance?

edit: edited the command since it was wrong! 🙂

Hope no one thinks I'm trolling, because I just reinstalled Half-Life, and I notice the "banding" effect of 16-bit textures -- if there's away around it I'd like to know about it...🙂

The command line option is -bpp 32.
So in your HL/CS shortcut just add that after the command line, making it <path>\hl.exe -bpp 32

Me, I dont see any banding in 16 bit color in HL, in CS though, there is some.

I think I read that about the only thing effected by changing to 32bit was like the smoke grenades and explosions, but I'm not positive.

The only things affected are, in short, anything that shows banding in 16 bit color(cept any textures that might do that, since all the textures are, as already stated, 16 bit).

But indeed, that is in almost every case smoke, and explosions, and sometimes when you're looking through transparent surfaces.
