How do I fix this old (warranty-expired) Planar PT1704N LCD display?

The display works for hours and even days sometimes flawlessly. Then, the monitor starts flickering kind of like an old VCR that is tracking badly. I've tried all the adjustments - including the horizontal clock and it is independent of the problem.

What is the problem and how would I fix this?

I am fully ready to open the monitor and adjust anything if necessary. It seems to me like there might be some sort of connection loose.

It is NOT a cable issue. I tried 2 different cables, multiple resolutions.. It even flickers when nothing is plugged into it and I'm using the OSD.

EDIT: oh ya.. the video...

sounds like drifting in and out of sync
used to be a prob with planars and ATI cards

the older Planars had an image tab (In the OSD) that would give you a "tracking" adjustment for flicker, or unstable image
in your manual I see only "Phase" adjustment for "pixel jitter", and "clock" for "wide verticle bands"

make sure your Vf in LCD and Vidcard control panel is the same
try vsync in windows display settings to ON for whatever card you have
