How do I fix a cracked DVD?

Hi there,

I got a DVD (Pulp Fiction SE) as a gift, but the main disc is cracked in the center (damn stupid digipack system!)

There are two cracks that start at the hole in the middle and do not extend to the data portion of the disc, but they're there... the longest one is about one centimetre in length, and I'm afraid it would grow over time.

What can I do to repair it?


*I don't have a store receipt; apart from buying a second DVD and returning the defective one instead, I don't know if there's much I can do in this direction*

You should be able to exchange it for the exact same thing, especially if it's defective.

Also, try putting some Super Glue on the crack. Won't 'fix' it, but should prevent it from getting bigger.

hmmm... the DVD is about 7.5GB, the DVDShrink reduction would be quite drastic. I'll see if the local Wal-Mart has this title - by the way, here in Canada, things may bea little more difficult, without a receipt.

What is the video portion? The entire thing may be 7.5 GB, but odds are if you strip the extras & extraneous audio/CC data you can get it MUCH smaller than that.

I've never had to use lower than 75-80% in DVDShrink.

Then again, if it's the SE you may want the extras...

can't you span it over 2 dvdr's? the point is to preserve it all, not strip it down to a pirate rip

later u can stick it onto a dual layer disc when those come out

I would try clear nail polish. Apply a coat evenly around the center of the disc (both sides), let it dry and repeat several times. Maybe sure its even around the entire disc or you will unbalance it and have some problems.

I think superglue is a better option. Nail polish isn't a glue, it wouldn't increase structural integrity very much.

I would try getting it replaced first.

Another option is acetone, it will fuse the plastic together.

Try to get it replaced or you can try encoding it with a program like TMPG or CCE. It will provide better quality than DVD Shrink.
