First, it said it doesn't have compatible dvd decoder, after I went through the windows updates, now it just gives me error. WTF...what more does microsoft want from me? Anyone knows where I can find the dvd decoder specifically?

I thought the decoder is available only when you install stand-alone DVD software like PowerDVD or WinDVD. Kinda defeats the purpose, though, doesn't it?

I may be wrong about that, though. :)

You mean media player will use the dvd decorder inside the stand alone dvd software?

Actually, I think the DVD decoder is intalled as part of the DVD software. Once the software is installed, WMP should be able to use the installed decoder for playback.

I'm having the same problems. I can use PowerDVD and WinDVD just fine, but Windows Media player claims not to be able to play DVD's. I have found commercial solutions to bestowing DVD power to WMP, but I cannot find a free solution!
