How do I find the Bottleneck?

Okay, so I play a game called "Lineage 2". The problem is... at any big pvp, my computer is brought to its knees, into a 1-10 fps slideshow.

the game is 4 years or more old. it's not a new game.

it doesnt stress my video card. it barely elevates the card temperature above normal.

it stresses the CPU, but not by much. I upgraded from an x2 3800+, to a e4400 (oced 2.0 -> 2.7ghz), and noticed absolutely no difference in terms of speed of the game. especially at mass pvp.

SO, i'm trying to determine exactly WHAT IS the bottleneck.

my system specs are as follows --->

MSI P35 Neo2-FR (bios updated to 1.5)
2 GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 (5-5-5-12... i was concerned about the 2.1v req for the lower latency stuff)
Intel E4400, OCed 2.0 to 2.7 (stock voltage)
XFX 8800GTS 320mb (stock overclock.. 580 mhz core)
2x Hitachi 160 GB SATA2 drives in raid0. (ICH9R)

Subjectively, my friend who has a similarly fast setup (E6700, nonOC, crossfire x1950pro's i think) gets similar slowdowns in mass pvp.

I'm looking to make the game as glass smooth as i can make it.

At the moment, i'm thinking the bottleneck is the HD access speed, or it's seek speed. when the slowdowns occur, the game is hitting the HD HARD (i can hear the seeks...the HD's are going like mad). Unfortunately, the game is retarded about the page file. i tried disabling paging, but freaking winxp does paging anyways, regardless of what i want. The game does not use the whole of my available ram. When i have the client open at it's max consumption for a single client (i 6box on my second computer...but just for botting) it uses approx 500 mb on the harddrive, and 60% of my physical RAM.

The only things I carried over from my last machine to my current one were those harddrives.

As possible resolution, i'm thinking about getting a secondhand SAS controller card and 2-4 SAS 15k, 2.5" drives. unfortunately, because of the board i have, i think i would need a PCI-E controller card, in the x4 variety. only one that i know of, and they're kind of expensive. (now i'm wishing i had a server mobo, with PCI-X capability.)

i know the difference between network lag and client lag.

network lag relates to the ping, whether or not the game updates correctly, etc.

client lag, or "load lag" is different. it's on the client computer, and speaks to fps issues...

I would expect it to be Video Ram because you are being forced to render a massive number of characters.

Did they are fix the ridiculous pvp inbalances archers had? When it first came out they ran faster than every other class in addition to the ranged attacks.

Nah, Lineage 2 is just about the worst programmed game ever, and it runs like total shit in pvp on any computer. You'd probably get 15 frames in a big pvp with like an 8800 ultra... not even kidding. It's just the game's programming that drops your frames so low, this also happens to my friend with nearly the same rig.
