I have not been able to find out.

I have been trying to download Direct X 9.0a and each time I try I get:

"Setup could not download the fiel. Please try later of check network connection"

Windows update shows it as an available update.

What's up?

Sounds like a problem at Microsoft to me. I've had this happen a few times with other files so don't worry, just try again another time.

To find out what version of DX you have installed, click "Start" and "Run" and type dxdiag in the space provided. Press "Enter". The DXDIAG gui will then pop up and you will be provided with all the DX info you could ever want about your current setup.
