how do i find out the "matching" center speaker for my mains?

well I picked up my HT system when i worked at BB like 4 years back. however my center channel speaker doesn't sound that great. i wanted to know how to figure out if it's the matching one for my mains or if it it's not, what is the matching one.

i have the JBL ND310 as my main ones, the northridge series. my center speaker is the N-Center, which I would think is the matching one. but i am not sure because there is some other HT in the box system you can get that uses my center as the center for the in the box one. however, the main's for the HT in the box are what I Use for my rears.

so i am not sure if my center is the correct matching one. my center seems kind of muffled and just does not have as much clarity as i would like.

so does anyone know where i can find the "matching" center speaker for my mains? and if my N-Center is the matching one, will getting the S-Center (the studio series, as oppose to the northridge) be a good idea? because I have heard just in general, you want to get the matching fronts and center.

thanks.

get the center that is made to go with your mains (same model line or JBL can tell you)

or better yet, just use the same three speakers for L/C/R if you can.

yea by model line, i'm pretty sure that my center is the matching, they are both northridge. however, i am tempted to get the studio series center to replace mine when i have some extra cash around because i just want more out of my center. the one i have right now is 2way, and the studio series is 3way.

heh and no way can i use the same for all 3 l/c/r. my l/r ones are like 4 feet tall w/2 subs in them, and that wouldn't fit well over my TV 😛.

I have JBLs all around but I have the studio series. The N center is the correct center for your L/R. Have you calibrated your speakers. If your receiver doesn't have auto calibration then you need a radio shack SPL meter and some test tones.

hey thanks for your reply.

so would i get a good benefit of getting the studio center speaker? or should i just try to get my set up better. i haven't gone through any calibration automatically w/my receiver. i have a yamaha receiver. i will have to look into that though.

I would start with the calibration and correct placement. The studio center probably won't match any better but it's a better center speaker.
