How Do I Find Out If My Simple Technology PC 133 Ram Is CAS2?

I have recently bought a 128 MB PC 133 RAM Module From Simple Technology and was told that its CAS 2, but I want to be sure. How can I Find Out?
Thanks In Advance

i suppose the most sample way is to check it the bios
to see if it is running 2-2-2 ot 3-3-3
anyway i got a question too.
does have to be 2-2-2 to qualify CS2
or under the CS latency is 2 if good enough
some with 2-2-3 or 2-3-2 or even 2-3-3 are those setting qualify as CS2

Go download the following program, the site's in German but the prog is in English, it will give you all the information stored on the SPD within the RAM. It will help you identify whether it truely is CAS2 RAM.

ctSPD

--Mark

Chuckieland, 2-3-3, and 2-3-2, 2-2-3, 2-2-2 would all classify as Cas2 RAM. The 2-2-2 would be faster and higher quality of course though.

I just d/l the proggy and it seems like it should work on an Asus mobo.
Nice program btw, seems like a very handy little tool to keep around.

well
the program say it can't find any dimm on my system
and i remember heard something about asus sheild the spd from the dimm, so it can not be read except in bios

By using this app, I found that my 256MB/PC133 Kingmax modules that were sold as "7ns/CAS2" are actually 7.5ns and rated at CAS333 @133MHz. So, I'll need someone to answer the following:

If the memory runs fine at 133MHz/CAS222 but isn't rated at that, will it get identical performance to "native" 133/222 memory sticks?

I just d/loaded to prog too. Not sure if I understand what it is saying though.
SPDEEPROM 66MHz 100MHz
CAS latency 2/3 2 2
RAS to CAS Delay 20 ns 2 2
RAS precharge tRP 20ns 2 2
RAS cycle time tRC 8 7
RAS active time 50ns 5 5

And a bunch of other stuff. Does this mean my RAM is only 20ns???????

BTW it didn't list my motherboard, does that matter?

I should have 256MB MIcron pc100 in here.
What does all of this really mean?

The nanosecons for your RAM are written in tab timing data, under Extended display. I believe you have PC100 CAS 2 RAM and should be very happy with that. I on the other hand seem to have CAS 3 PC133 RAM and I will be changing that first thing on Friday. They thought I wouldn't find out. How wrong they were.

LEO - If you run the "Non-CAS2" mem at CAS2 and it is stable, then you got CAS2 memory for a good price. Don't expect it to hold up if you overclock though 🙁. It will be every bit as fast as the CAS2 though. The catch is that there are 3 numbers in the speed of memory. Manufacturers only tell you the most important. If the other two are slower, it will be a little bit slower.

Thanks Quaggoth! As promised by the vendor, the memory seems fine at 133MHz/CAS2-2-2 and they said it's been known to go up to 143MHz at CAS2.

New question: Asus A7V133's new BIOS (as just mentioned on Anandtech) sports the following:

"3. More advanced memory performance can be utilized if the timing of "SDRAM configuration" is changed from default SPD to 7ns (143MHz)."

Can anyone explain what exactly this should mean?

THere's a couple of different things under Timing DAta. Which one would I need ot look at to find the nanoseconds?
thanks

I believe Its the first line under SPD value. Mine sasy 7.5 ns. The second line is also important but i think the first one is the one you're looking for.
