How do I find out how often my ISP releases my IP?

Do you mean like when other people can see it?

 

What's your ISP? I know for a fact that Comcast in my area only gives me a new IP when my MAC changes. I got a new cable modem last year and my IP has been the same ever since.

Type ipconfig/all in the cmd prompt
It would give you when the IP lease began and when its going to expire...

That doesn't mean you're going to get a new IP.

I had the same IP for 3 years with the local cable company, but with Qwest DSL it seems like I get a new IP anytime my modem's off for more than a minute.

Thought the point of broadband connection was you purchase the IP until you change the provider?

That way you can run servers and such easier.

isnt that exactly what he just said? i mean changing only when you get a MAC is basically saying it is a static IP. how often do you change out cable modems?

That doesn't mean you're going to get a new IP.

Yeah usually it renews the lease....

However, if your ISP has server problems or if you switch off your modem, the ip will change. If you have not opted for a static ip your ISP can change it whenever they want...

having broadband has shat to do w/ having a static IP...static IP is normally only given at an extra cost...i'm guessing most cable companies provide it free to make it easier to maintain customers...
