How do I figure out my socket type?

I'm looking to upgrade and the chips I'm looking at are socket A. Currently I'm using an Athlon XP 1800+. How do I figure out if a socket A chip will fit my motherboard? Its just a store bought premade computer, instruction books thrown out long ago, and me being the newbie that I am I couldn't even tell you how I'd find out what type motherboard it is.
