how do i figure out my engine size/type?

I have a 93 Honda Civic and I was just curious how I figure out what the engine type is. When I go buy parts, they always ask me if it's a 1.5 or 1.6. It doesn't say it on the engine or anything to do with the car (that I know of). Thanks

I think he meant the manual for the car itself... the one they always put in the glove box

the vin number can tell you if its a 1.5 or a 1.6... u just have to know which letter says which it is.

My 86 camaro... one of the vin letters was an H, it could have also been a G. That designation told you what the size of the engine is.

Your local parts dealer may be able to assist you in determining which character to look at.

In '93 the Civic EX had a 1.6 litre engine. The DX and LX had the 1.5 litre engine.

Took 30 seconds at Edmunds.com, no VIN decoding needed. Honda didn't have multiple engines for a given trim level back then.

all cars, by law, must have an emmissions sticker under the hood somewhere. It will tell you the displacement. Assuming the sticker wasn't removed.

Even my 1979 Mopar has one.

Take your car to the ghetto and ask random people if they want to look under your hood. Eventually some fast talking know-it-all will tell you what kind of crappy engine you have in your Honda.

Just pull the heads and fill the cylinders with water. Measure how much water it takes to fill them.

Better yet, the foolproof way of knowing for sure is to open your hood and look for the emission sticker. There it will tell you what size engine you have as well as other pertinent info such as recommended spark plug type and what the gap should be. The sticker could be on the underside of the hood or on the radiator support.

Actually you only need to fill one cylinder up and then multiply by the number of cylinders.

Look on the car's papers - you should find there alot of nice things (like empty weight, max load weight, engine type/displacement/power/torque, number of seats (if you don't know already) and so on.

I dunno about this. Seems you would have to catch the pistons at the bottom to get a good measurement. You'd never really be sure. Still, I think it's worth a try.
