how do i fdisk the mbr

At a DOS prompt type: fdisk /mbr.

You may need to boot from a Windows boot disk and then use the above line.

It wipes your mbr. Can be useful to clear some viruses and get rid of parts of LILO or other boot loaders that were uninstalled incorrectly. It doesn't always work, though.

umm...look at the second post. :p
You don't get a menu like regular fdisk menu, it just clears the mbr and returns you to a prompt.

This is what I think the command does:

If you boot of a Windows 98 boot disk and run the command, it will put the "Windows 98 boot disk's MBR" onto your system. I may be wrong, but that's what I think it does. Likewise, if you use a Windows 98 SE it will put that MBR on there.

Someone please correct me if i'm wrong. hehe
