How do I enable PureVideo?

So how can I use the features it brings me (I know there anren't all for me)? I have 67.03s intalled, what do I do now to improve IQ?
 
download the nvidia dvd decoder (30 day free trial), then watch a dvd in wmp, in your system tray right click the nvidia logo and you will see decoder options or something like that where you can adjust options
 
The problem is I don't want to pay for something I have already paid. If I don't download the decoder can't I use any feature??

Its a trial, so you could see if its worth it.

Personally, as miffed as I am about the PVP debacle (and I am), the NV Decoders actually are very good, I bought them for MCE, and they work well and support DXVA acceleration with both my AIW 9700pro and my 8500le cards (no VPP on ATI though 🙁
 
The DVD Decoder is working with nVDVD 2.27 OEM that came with my BFG GT OC.

I'm a little confused on this. It was my understanding that the reason that video card manufacturers chanrged for DVD decoders was because they had to get them from a third party... Now, if their decoder is created in house, proprietary, and only works with their hardware, why do we have to buy it?

The DVD Decoder is working with nVDVD 2.27 OEM that came with my BFG GT OC.

I tried nVDVD that came with my eVGA card and the output quality was not anywhere close to that of PowerDVD.

You have to pay a per-license royalty on any DVD decoder/player (hardware or software). This is on top of the fees you have to pay to be able to officially use the DVD standards. That's just how the licensing agreements for the DVD standard work.

Also, their decoder is NOT proprietary (it works just fine with other hardware and software besides NVDVD), and I'm not sure it was created entirely in-house.

Well, was it worth the wait? Considering that PureVideo came as a free feature on GeForce 6 cards, it's more like unwrapping an early Christmas present - one that we were promised eight months ago.

it's not "free", we have to pay for a different decoder in order to take advantage of it?

Bullshat ain't it? :disgust: The there is the fact the WMV HD acceleration they told us we'd get with our NV40 based cards is borked, and evidently it is broken hardware that is to blame.

IMO what it equates to is that nV advertised a steak sandwich with onions, peppers, and steak sauce. Come to find out that you will never get the onions&peppers, and the steak sauce is a extra charge, starting to taste more like a shat sandwich the more I eat 😉

The DVD decoder, which *can* use PureVideo in the latest version, is not proprietary and will work with any kind of hardware. They've been selling it as a standalone product for some time (and it is included with some cards, like the Personal Cinema FX5900s). You can only use the PureVideo features, obviously, on a system with an NV4X-based video card installed. But you can install it on any system and use it to play DVDs.

PureVideo (AKA the PVP or "NV40 Video Processor" chip) can theoretically be used by any player/decoder that is properly coded to take advantage of it. This is what they mean by saying it is a "free" feature. PureVideo (as a feature) is "free"; NVIDIA's DVD decoder (which is currently the only way to use PureVideo) is not.

I seriously doubt if anyone can code features to use it without paying Nvidia a royalty. So it is not FREE in any way shape or form.
Please let me know if the DVD decoder will work on your 6800 GT as it will not work on mine.
 
well, i don't know about you guys, but all of this feels like anything but opening an early christmas gift, or one at all. i have a couple additional questions though:

how does powerDVD's de-interlacing algorithms compare to nvidia's? could i theoretically use nvidia's DVD decoder, but still apply some of powerDVD's features like CLEV?

Blame software patents and the "intellectual property" cartels that they have created.

One cannot author and distribute, even if the work is completely one's own, a: DVD decoder/player, MP3 decoder, still-image decoder (various formats), and a whole host of other, numerous, common, things. It's a shame, really. It's not like you would ever be prohibited from painting, drawing, singing, or acting, when the muse strikes.. but software, no, that's different. Because the huge megacorps said so. Next thing you know, they'll be asking for royalties for singing "Happy Birthday"...
 
Use a different media player MSMP10 is also borked at the moment .... part of the problem....With NeroMP i do not drop frames compared to over 200 with WMP10
