How do I enable my secondary monitor as my primary?

I just bought a Samsung SyncMaster 193P in hopes that I can use it as my primary monitor on my IBM Thinkpad T30. My intention is to just close the lid on the thing and let the new 19"er take over full duties.

The Thinkpad is on a docking station with a DVI output, which I'm using. Works great as two desktops spanning across my Windows XP Pro desktop using the built-in ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 chipset, but the HydraVision software that I just downloaded doesn't seem to be helping me out. No drivers for the Radeon were available to download either.

How do I get this to work? Much thanks in advance.

Yeah, I did that... the desktop is extended onto the Samsung, but the 'primary monitor' checkbox is still greyed-out, not letting me kick it over.

However, this dual-display setup isn't as bad as I thought really...

It's a vendor specific option. Some laptop vendors don't allow this, IBM may be one of them as I know I can do this with my ATI card in my Gateway. It's all dependent on how the video card driver enumerates it's "heads". Have you tried installing a Catalyst driver from ATI's site instead of ones from IBM?

Ok. No, I looked on ATI's website but didn't see a driver for my solution (Radeon Mobility 7500 for XP). Or is there just one driver for all and it doesn't matter?

Please forgive me- I'm more of an nVidia guy and this is the first time I've worked with ATI stuff in probably almost 10 years.

Try analog on the docking station. I use a T43 and have my lcd as my primary. I use ATIs drivers.

omegadrivers will work. Ati has 1 driver for all graphics, but I dont think theirs supports the mobiles except for high ends ones.

Good tip- I'll give that a shot when I get home. Thanks!

In the meantime, using it as my secondary and having two screens is a helluva lot better than I was thinking it was going to be. I may not use this afterall, heh.
