how do i enable dvi on my new LCD?

ViewSonic Q19wb

i can't figure out how to enable DVI instead of VGA. First LCD i've had. also it's a 19", i'm used to 1600x1200 on a 19" CRT(very small!). since 1440x900 or whatever is the native res i guess i'm stuck with this?

it's still a little too big for me.

Make sure you have a DVI cable making the connection.

On my DELL FP2001, I have a button next to the power button that cycles through the various connection settings.

x800xl is the vid card btw.

i've tried setting the monitor 'hardware'(buttons on LCD itself) to digital. it doesn't work. i looked in the display properties using the ATI CCC. no luck.

You shouldn't have to do anything to the videocard. It will output via the DVI port automatically. Should be as simple as using the DVI cable to hook it up to your monitor, turn it all on, and it works.

Double check your connections.

Does the LCD turn on? Does it have power? If so, cycle through all the options one more time. Make sure you're not missing any buttons. About all the advice I can give.

You might want to make sure your videocard was last set at a setting the new monitor can handle. Make sure it's set below the LCD's max res and at 60Hz if possible.

i tried plugging both in. setting it do dvi/digital on the input setting using the monitor buttons. it flicks and shows the screen again. so i assume it's in dvi mode so i unplug the vga and it turns off blinking "no analog signal" or something to that extent.

surely my card supports this monitor/res/specs.
