You need the Windows UDMA 5 patch for Win2k... UDMA 5 is not Natively supported by Windows 2000..

Microsoft ATA 100 / UDMA 5 in Win2k

Its either use the patch or lower your UDMA setting in your bios to UDMA 4, which is supported by Win2k.

the 4in1 driver cd came with this white paper saying that i should leave the BM Ultra ATA driver off because itll cause BSOD's. and it does cause bsods because ive tried it both on and off. im thinking this is what is causing it not to want to stay with dma mode. any help would be appreciated, c'mon you kt7 owners, help a fellow abit'r out!

WIN2K > Device Manager > IDE/ATAPI Controllers > Primary IDE/Secondary
IDE Channel > Advanced Settings > Transfer Mode > DMA if available >
> OK

Uhm, I did that. It stays at PIO mode. My Secondary IDE Channel stays DMA Enabled, but the Primary is the one thats staying at PIO Mode.

try removing the primary channel & rebooting. windows should redetect it & hopefully enable DMA transfers!

According to Microsoft that is a bug.... errr.... Feature. Applying the ATA-100 Hotfix will allow the drive to work in UltraDMA mode but the Device Manager is not updated properly to show that. I saw an MS Knowledgebase article on this problem, but I can not find it when I need it. I will look later

RBlount is right. Eventhough it shows as a pio it's running in DMA mode. I found that on Msknowledge base. If you want to be convinced, just copy a big file from a folder to another and check your cpu utilization: It will stay very low
