How do I enable DMA for my hard drive and CDRW under Windows 98?

Thanks in advance!

Don't have it in front of me, but it should be the same as Windows 2000. Go to Device Manager and expand the IDE Controllers. Right-click on the Primary IDE channel (the Secondary will be done the same way) and on the Advanced Settings tab you'll see where it describes whether or not DMA is enabled for the drives. Just change everything to "DMA if available". Will probably have to reboot afterwards.

I think that in Win98 you go to your device manager, and select the CDRW and check the DMA check box.

Thanks for the responces, guys. I managed to enable DMA for my CDRW, but there doesn't seem to be such an option for my Quantum HD - should there be one?

If it's a really old hard drive, it may not support DMA mode.
Maybe it's starting to age?

I just built a new system and had no DMA option. Installing the first driver from the 4-in-1 pack fixed the problem.
(Epox 8kha+).
