Right click on "My Computer" choose properties at the bottom.

Click on "Device Manager"

Click the + sign by the CD-Rom devices.

Double Click on your CD-Rom drive and then check "Auto Insert Notification" under the "Settings" tab

Reboot the computer and it should be good to go.

Hehehe, then something else is messed up. Uncheck it, then reboot, then check it again and reboot one more time... See if that restores the regestry value... If that does not work, something else is wrong and may require a reinstall for that feature!.

Make sure you are using a CD that has autoplay file in it... If not it will fail to open up automaticaly... Most game CDs will have Autoplay, so make sur you try one.

I had that problem once with an old Win95 system. The strange thing was that music CDs would autoplay but not program/game CDs! I wish I could remember how I fixed it. It was some kind of registry fix...

If you get TweakUI, in the Paranoia tab, there are two checkboxes for Play Data CD automatically and Play Audio CD automatically (that are seperate from Auto-insert notification)... you might want to try messing with that.
