I recently bought a couple Rosewill RC-211 2-port SATA RAID controllers. It uses the Silicon Image chip Sil3132. I'm using it in my NAS running FreeBSD 8.2.
I was able to simply install the PCIe card into my NAS and connect a couple HDDs to the PCIe card. FreeBSD immediately recognized the card and the attached HDDs (listed as devices ad4 and ad6, iirc). If I'm not mistaken, ad should mean it's connected as IDE mode devices, not AHCI, which should be ada#.
I've emailed Rosewill about how to switch to AHCI mode, but they said the RC-211 doesn't support AHCI, which doesn't make sense, given the RC-211 supports NCQ and hot-swapping. I'm still waiting for another response, but they're so slow that I figured I probably have a better chance of finding the answer here first.
