I have a rather older monitor S23A700D samsung monitor but I used to be able to display 120Hz on this (used to play on 120FPS before).

I went to the display settings but there isn't even an option to choose 120Hz. I'm capped at 60Hz.

I'm plugged in using HDMI cable to my new laptop (Ryzen 7 5800H + RTX 3060) and using my Samsung monitor as the primary (and the only display).

did you say the monitor works with the ps5 using your cable that doesn't work with your laptop at the same speed?

EDIT: wow doesnt that seem kind of weird to hamstring a port like that?

is this a new laptop? :(

@swchoi89

I was going to say take the monitor / laptop to a store and test it while you're there. I would have probably just sold the monitor and gotten something newer that supported the HDMI or DP instead of messing around with it. Then again I do like a challenge. Amazon would be my friend and I would order all of the adapters / cables and find the one that works and then ship the rest back.

I just did a screen upgrade on my laptop from FHD to UHD and eyed up a miniLED panel but couldn't find it in stock / shippable and ended up with a pretty good 120hz / 4K but needed to convert the pins on the cable because they're smaller on the new screen. All in w/ expedited shipping from CN ~$300. Works like a charm on a laptop that never sold with a 4K screen.

Working on my latest adventure modifying a T-Mo 5G box for home internet w/ parts arriving today / tomorrow to boost the bandwidth on it beyond what it's doing currently 300x100. I know it can do more because my phone hits 600x100. Specs on the card say it should max out at 2.5gbps / ~300mbps so there's hope with the proper signal tuning.

Does it matter which one I buy?

USB-C to DVI, or Mini-DP to DVI,?
Mini-DP to DVI would be the safer option. If the monitor doesn't detect the 120Hz signal over DVI, you can force it manually by using the Standard Signal Mode table in the monitor manual. It should work because the monitor's DVI port isn't restricted.
