.DAT is not a unique file extension. They can be literally anything from MPEG movies to executable code. Any clues on where you got it or what created it??
make sure it is not in use and use the standard methods of deletion. if you get an error msg saying the file is in use, what u can do is to reboot to a dos prompts and delete it then.
