I just broght a 5400RPM Hard drive to replace my 4200 RPM HD. I don't wish to reinstall WinXP Pro therefore is there a way to image my old laptop HD to the new one using Drive Image. I know on a regular PC, all there is to do install the new HD as the Slave drive and image it, but how do you add a slave drive to a laptop.

Thanks in advance

You need to get 2 notebook-ide->regular-ide adapters. They're not very expensive. Then you can hook up the drives to a desktop computer.

Thanks for the responds. How do I boot to load an image from a CD with a blank HD? I read somewhere compgeeks sells the adapter cheap, I may look into that.

Norton Ghost will have you create a floppy or two to boot with and then you'll be able to restore the image of your old hard drive that you ghosted with cd-r's. Drive Image software is pretty much the same.

If have you an open bay for interchange parts like a CDROM/floppy or whatever like the Dell Latitude series of notebooks you can buy a special bay that you can put your second HD into and use as a second HD in your laptop. I don't think they're too expensive.

I have a maxtore external drive that I would like to use to backup my laptop. So that if I encounter problems I can restore the laptop. What is the best way to do that? The maxtore drive came with software that let me copy the laptops drive to my external drive. Can I restore the laptops drive with that?
