i have this 500MHz comp and its to slow for vid editing

im gettin a IS7 with at least 2.4 GHz and i hope 1GB memory
the IS7 comes with IEEE 1394 FireWire
and SPDIF
i have a Sony DCR TRV27 its very nice
it has USB, I.Link, Svideo ID-2, Lanc, and an A/V ID-2 jack

which is the best for copying video to my hardrive ?
do i need a Capture card?
would FireWire work in these Jacks?
and what the hell is SPDIF?

Thx,

1. dunno
2. does your system have video in?
3. if it has IEEE 1394, that is firewire
4. SPDIF = sony-phillips Digital interface, its for transmitting digital sound into a reciever

I.Link.

No, in fact IIRC the TRV27 will also allow you to input an analog device (VCR) and convert and output it via firewire (Ilink) into your PC..nice for digitizing home movies.
would FireWire work in these Jacks?
Yup, thats your I-link.

so rbV5 your saying that i can transfer video from a tape in my VCR to my camera?
then i can get an I.Link cable plug it into my camera and into my IEEE 1394 jack on my motherboard and then i can transfer the video onto my computer?

if this is all true, do i need a program to get it from the camera?
i have Adobe Premiere 6.5 does that work?

Thx for the help guys

Well, I'm not rbV5, but I can answer your questions. I just got a minidv cam too!

"so rbV5 your saying that i can transfer video from a tape in my VCR to my camera?"

Yep.

then" i can get an I.Link cable plug it into my camera and into my IEEE 1394 jack on my motherboard and then i can transfer the video onto my computer?"

Yep.

"if this is all true, do i need a program to get it from the camera?
i have Adobe Premiere 6.5 does that work?"

Adobe Premiere 6.5 will do the trick, or even the free Windows movie maker if you are running XP.

Thx for the help guys

Yes, Adobe Premiere 6.5 will work. Check out the help file on "Preparing for DV video capture" for the info to start. Also check out real time preview.

From the Link"Analog-to-Digital Conversion with Pass-Through
Convert and/or record any analog NTSC video source to digital video via the analog inputs. Analog NTSC video can also be passed through the Digital Handycam camcorders directly into a PC via the i.LINK interface in real time for easy PC editing of your analog footage.

The Sony $39 cable looks a lot like These from Newegg? but I'm not certain.

Dual heads would be better, but an AIW 9700 Pro has some features that make it a good video editing card, but certainly not necissary and overkill for what you would be doing.
