in OE it is possible to set contacts so that anyone you reply to is automatically added to the address book. i cannot find where this option would be located in outlook xp - could someone enlighten me please

In Outlook 98/2000 you could do this by following the instructions here but from what information I found online it looks like you can't do this in Outlook 2002. If you're not afraid of a little VBA you can roll your own solution as shown here.
