I have a 32mb stick of ram. Im not sure if its PC100 or PC66.

It dont have a brand name on it, it came in a dell comp. A very old one.

Each chip on the memory has the following markings/text:

9750 C USA
mT 48LC2M8A1
TG -10 S

There is also a white sticker on it that reads:

MT16LSDT464A6
-662C1
9751AA5YS.064

Any ideas what speed this thing is would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dan

I think its micron technologies PC66 RAM, I think the 10 stands for 10NS which => PC66

Well, it appears that the chips could be 10ns from that info... I'd probably say PC66

If the memory stick has SPD, then the SiSoft Sandra utility would probably be able to tell you more...

EDIT: Seems like RichieZZZZ agrees... posted at the same time!

It will probably run a tad slow, but it might not be unbearably bad. You can always give it a try and see what happens. If it is too slow, then just format and go back to 98SE.

Go back? 98's never been on the machine :p

I just nicked a 256mb PC133 chip outta my mums machine because i want it for my machine, which only had 256mb PC133 in it before. I have 128mb PC100 though.

The 160 comes from the 128mb PC100 + the 32mb PC66. Any ideas if the machine would run quicker with 160mb Ram running at PC66 or 128mb running at PC100?

Thanks

So i could overclock the memory to PC100? Its not like major, but its kinda worrying thought doing that. The chips pretty old bless it.

The mobo is an Abit BX 6, Intel BX Chipset with a p2 400.

This data page has models with similar numbers; according to them, it's PC100. But I'd say the best way would still be to install it in the computer and run Sisoft Sandra on it, and go to the Motherboard section of it; in there, under Memory Modules, it should tell you its maximum officially rated speed.
With a 440BX chipset and a P2 400, I'd say the RAM is capable of 100MHz, as I think that's the default memory and bus speed of Pentium II processors at 350MHz and higher

I did it with Hyundai memory... I could only run it at CAS3 though. I did the same with PC100, on a Athlon system running it at PC133. Don't do it if you don't want to risk burning the mem..... i take no responsibility....lol

Yes it is default of 100mhz. If i have the unkown speed chip in there will it clock down the rest of the memory and processor as per normal, or will it not run?

Either way im not putting my 256mb PC133 Hyundai chip back in there, pointless having a PC133 256mb chip sitting in a machine that uses 100mhz bus speed & only browses the net, chat rooms, and e-mail, when it could be in my machine running at actual 133 rates, and doing me some good use for games, DC & General system tasks.

Out of interest whats everyones opionion on noticable speed differences between PC133 and ddr2100? Is it worth moving to ddr2100 on my K7s5a board?

Thanks

Lol im not gunna try it on the 32mb then, considering i dont even know the brand of the stuff!!!!

Hyundai make good memory in my opinion. I have 2 of there 256mb PC133 modules. Im very pleased with them too

It depends if the motherboard can run the memory bus async to the FSB. Othewise, it may run the mem at 100MHz.

IMO, it's worth putting DDR 2100 on the K7S5A... you should see a boost in content creation progs and a small increase in gaming performance (depending on your graphics card).
