How do i disable the intel speedstep thing?

Its working now. It idles at 45c though, so ill remount the hsf tomorrow. How can I force the speed of the fan higher? its only at 1100rpm. its the stock intel hsf

Do i have to remove the mobo to remount the hsf?

well it depends on the hsf you have? if one that'll fit right stock bracket, then no you wont need to remove the motherboard. But if it requires a different type of bracket to be install ,yeah you have to remove the motherboard.

When you post your core temp, you should also post your system temp for comparison. What are you measuring the temp with?

The stock Intel cooler is pretty weak. It's worth a few bucks to buy a decent cooler like the arctic freezer pro 7 for $20. My TAT temps dropped by 12°C with one.

You don't have to remove the mobo to remount, but those push pin clips are the suxor. The only 100% sure way to see it they go in all the way, is to remove the mobo and install the cooler outside the case. That way, you can see if they pushed through properly. If you're going to do that, just invest in a better cooler IMO. Then your problems will go away.

My sys temp is 34-35c. I'm using ASUS Pc probe, speedfan and the bios measurements are within 1-2c, so im pretty sure they're accurate. My mobo tray has an opening right under the cpu socket, so I can see if the pins are engaged just by taking the other side panel off.

I've never heard the stock hsf is weak. All I hear is that it's generally fine for up to 3 gHz, idleing around 40c at that speed. when i oc'ed to 2.4, it was at 51 idle, 69 load 🙁

I would also like to know how to do this...

Check the BIOS... my DS3 has a setting there for CPU fan speed control - just turn it off and the fan goes full-speed.

The temps reported by those programs are 5-10°C too low. The only accurate core temp comes from Intel TAT (Thermal Analysis Tool).

I ran my E6600 with a stock cooler for awhile. At 3GHz it'd run about 65°C under 100% load (TAT) with the system temp about 30°C. If you're going to overclock, you really should buy a better cooler IMO.

That's EXTREMELY low! I was able to run my CPU to about 3.2GHz at 1.325V. You do know the P5B undervolts, right? It has a known core voltage droop of about 0.01V. To get the CPU at the default voltage of 1.325 you'll have to set it manually in BIOS to somewhere between 1.340 and 1.350....all the boards seem to be slightly different.

However, if it runs your OC fine at that voltage, no worries and that will help it to run cooler....just giving you a headsup on the P5B. If you intend on clocking higher when you get a better cooler, it's important to understand about the Vcore droop.

I didn't change the voltage in bios, that's what it was automatically at. According to pc-probe. I ran some other program, and it said 1.18v. not sure what program, i forgot
 
TAT's temps are give or take 1-2c the same as pc probe and speedfan. I got the hsf to run at 2k rpm constantly, and I still cant hear it over my 4 3k rpm case fans. I still have about the same temps as before though, I'm gonna remount it real fast
 
UPDATE:

I remounted/reapplied AS5 again, and rearranged my case fans so my fastest 80mm is blowing on my cpu, instead of the video card where it was at. This is at 1.3v though, and it was running at 2.4gHz with 1.18v, so I'm gonna get the lowest possible voltage i can manage at 2.4. Other than stability problems, is there anything that could be damaged by undervolting?
 
Idling now at 41c at 2.4gHz and 1.22vCore. Temps with both cores at 100% utilization using TAT, 66c. I'm gonna drop the vcore a bit more and see where that puts me
 
now @ 2.4gHz, 1.18vcore(lowest my mobo goes), idling at 41 still. Im gonna run orthos and go to class
