How Do I Devote More CPU Time To SETI?

AkumaX

Lifer
using CLI version of SETI, SETILog, and SETIWatch, my average CPU %age is anywhere from 35%-38% (with one at 41%)

avg ~35% = 2hr 53min
avg ~36% = 2hr 44min
avg ~38% = 2hr 35min
1x @~41% = 2hr 23min

my rig:

amd 2100+ @ 2167mhz (~2700+) 1.8v
sk6+ delta 80mm 4000rpm
ecs k7s5a, cheepoman bios, and @ 166/166 (through speedfan 4.07)
512mb pc2700 ultra 2-2-6
120gb 8mb WD 7200rpm

???????

AkumaX,
Where are you getting the average from? From SETIWatch, or from the task manager, or another CPU monitor program?

I don't know about SETIWatch, but SETIDRIVER doesn't report CPU usage, just percent to completion.

Those WU times don't sound too bad. Maybe whatever you're using to report CPU % is just wrong?

well, technically, through taskmgr, CPU Usage is always at 100% if that's what you mean 🙂

but using SETILog, they have a CPU Idle %age Usage I think, where when you're computer's idle, it'll use max resources on the CPU, I think (not sure, I'll have to check when I'm home again) but anyone out there using SETILog should be able to know what I'm talking about

Actually, this sounds somewhat similar to what I observed with the seti CLI linux client. It seemed to be using around 65% of my 1.2GHz T-Bird's power, and returned data units in roughly 4-4.5 hours. I can run two clients simultaneously, and get two data units between 5.5-6 hours (meaning I've gained roughly 50% efficiency by running two clients). This is all according to TOP, which is pretty good at tracking processor usage.
