How do I destroy CD/remove the dye!

Need to destroy some confidential cds......how do I remove the dye??

it can't be good for your microwave. the metal/plastic vapour will mess it up and it can catch on fire

scrape top layer of cd w/ anything abrasive. If it's super confidential you should probably shred it afterwards, otherwise unless the CIA or someone with high-end equipment gets it and wants to read (parts of) it you should be rather safe at that point.

For simple jobs I use perm.marker on the clear side (bottom) but I imagine some sanding and polishing could defeat that. So, again, if it's highly confidential and risky, then if you scrape away the top layer (reflective stuff) you are good. And follow the bad directions, srape off in circles not straight lines from inner to outer.

Oh, forgot one, wearing protective goggles, and using a dremmel, spin it up to 50K RPM's and let'er fly.

I hear that's quite interesting... although I'm not brave/crazy enough to try it myself. There is a website out there that talks about it. Bored, here's one that I found

LOL! These Imation CD's are made of TUFF STUFF!!! Can't even scrape off w/ alcohol, salycilic acid....lol.....tryed to burn it...it take a long arse time under the lighter and then you can't even scrape off the other parts cause it stills sticks! MAD PROPS TO IMATION! I had some crappy prime pheriperals cds! It came off 2 months AFTER BEING IN MY CAR! WTF??

Key's work well to scrape (in a pinch) or scissors (but too sharp to be efficient at removing lots of foil).

Another option.... Put it in an AOL Free Trial sleeve?
