How do I deal with this situation?

My parents and I are incredibly close with this individual. My parents went into their office, and found a suicide note on the front counter, and my father rushed to his house (~20 mins away) and found him lying on the couch with 5 empty bottles of prescription drugs. My dad couldn't feel a pulse (he's a really big guy.. 350lbs+) so he started slapping him, and yelling his name. He would come in and out of consciousness, until the ambulance arrived.

We got the call that he is doing okay, and is going to live. Now, one of my questions is: will it be really awkward seeing him again? I plan saying "Glad to see you..did you watch the fights?" or something like that. Will he be too embarrassed to talk to us again? When will I be able to see him? Should I contact him first (I already sent him a text message to him today, saying "Hope to see you soon...Love you lots, buddy!"

Have any of you had any experiences with things like this? How did you handle it?

For obvious reasons your name+post reminded me of this

mmmm... 90s music.

(they were 90s, right? 😀)

I've had experience with friends/loved ones attempting to off themselves. Most important thing is to remember that you play no role in their mental illness, they've got to deal with their baggage not you. So continue to treat them the same as you always would and don't try to look in their eyes and see if you can tell if they're getting ready to kill themselves again.

My dad and I were talking about how we feel guilty because we might have "missed the sign"

This guy was the happiest person I've ever met..good cover up, i guess.

How long will it be before someone in ATOT says what we're all thinking?

He only wanted attention?

If he meant business, he'd have used a shotgun?

WHAT WHAT WHAT????

My opinion is that whatever demons drove him to it really aren't your business unless he opens up to you. I think you'll be fine as long as you treat him with respect.

Just deal with it as best you can. I wouldn't push the issue and only bring it up after some time has passed.

His two sons are Green Berets, and are serving somewhere. His wife is a bitch, and they hate eachother.

we're the only people he has, and I want to make sure that he knows we're here for him, but don't want him to feel embarrassed.

I think the first time I saw him I would say how glad I am that he pulled through. I would offer any help I could provide. If it's someone I am very close with, I will ask if he's getting help with whatever brought him to that level, out of concern for his well-being. After that I would try to treat him just like I always did, and make a point to ask how he is doing so he knows I care. If he wants to talk about the incident, he can bring it up.

You have to acknowledge in some way what happened, otherwise it will always be the elephant in the room.

never start a reposne with "dude, I'd kill myself first", or "dude you're killing me", or "don't make me hurt you".

That the OP is usually a troll and I shouldn't take any of his posts seriously?

Spend time with him, be a good friend. Don't change the way you behave around him, just support him and make sure he knows you care.
