Anyone know how to cut the power down on a fan so that it slows down? Its way too loud in this particular PC in question.

I've seen this done before to quiet down fans.. I'm powered off the 4pin connector (3pin->4pin adapter-> then to a 4pin from the PSU).

no, wont reach.

Well if you plug it into the mobo somehow, I would put it in the slot where the cpu fan goes normaly.

From there you can ajust the speed with speed fan or MBM5.

There are many ways to reduce the speed of a fan in order to quiet it down as others have pointed out.

But, you need to know that reducing the RPM of a fan reduces its cooling capability. Only do it if you are sure that there is room for increased temperature.

Also, you need to realize that by doing this you will be voiding the warranty.
It is not fair to modify a fan and reduce its cooling and when the part burns return it to the manufacturer for warranty service.

It's pretty straightforward. Just follow the instructions at the bottom of this SPCR page. You basically span the 12V and ground wires across either the 12V and 5V or the 5V and ground wires of a molex. You want the red wire attached to the higher voltage line, and don't forget the electrical tape if you'll be pushing the wires right into a spare molex. You can also solder/twist crimp the fan wires to a spare four-pin molex (from a Y-splitter or a 3- to 4-pin adapter), if you want to be able to un/plug the fan easily from the PSU's molex. Or just buy a resistor or a Zalman fanmate or something.

Maybe DansData.com, 7Volts.com, or another SPCR article/forum thread has an illustrated guide?
