How do i create a WEP Passphase? -> Orinoco card

JEDI

The Orinoco card software (Truemobile 1150 Client Manager) doesnt come w/a WEP Passphase generator. you have to manually type in the Hex passphase. the problem is i dont know what the hex equivalent of my passphase is. on my other computer, it just lists ************* as the hex equivalent.

so how do i determine what my hex passphase is?

You just make up a string of digits in hex, depending on what level of WEP you're using.

Like for 64bit WEP, I think you need 10 hex characters. So 14a3d68f6b would be a valid WEP key. Put that into the router or WAP, and into the wireless card software.

If you don't know what the key was that was put into the other computer or router/WAP, then you'll need to make up a new one to put into all the devices (make sure you put it somewhere secure in case you need to add another wireless device later). There's no way (at least no easy way) for you to just find out what key the computer is already using.
