I have two hard drives. My Master/Boot drive is empty, and I have a second drive that has Win2K on it. The Master is c: drive, and the second drive is d:. How do I copy everything from d: drive to c: drive? Also, how will I change all of the file etensions to reflect the drive change? The whole reason I am avoiding reinstalling Win2K is because all of my @Home Software and Cable Connection stuff is on d:, and I don't want to loose it and have the comcast people come back out and re-install the software and pay money for it.

uh why don't you take and make the d the master and the c the slave, be quicker and easier for you... .or you could use norton ghost, no need to change eXtensions

Well, I have tried that. But, it won't work. I keep getting the error that says it can't boot off of the d:. I think that it has something to do with the boot information, which is located on c:.

So you want to leave the boot info on C: and copy the D: drive
to C: But won't the boot info still be looking to D: for the
program/system files???
I think you're gonna have to reinstall.....unless....
Unless a program like Drive Copy ($30) can do it.....

Is it possible to Disconnect d:, reformat c:, then install Win2k on c:. Then connect up d:, and copy my @Home files from d: to c: and make them work in c:?

Your best (and easiest) bet is to use Norton Ghost.

Ghost will boot up in DOS (to avoid Windows in-use files) but will also keep exact long filenames and extensions.

If you edit the boot.ini file in your win2k box to point to the first drive and partition it will work. After editing reboot and use Ghost to copy partitions and you'll be set.

After you move the contents of the drive over to C:, to get it to boot, in Windows 98 at least, you would have to do an FDISK /MBR to rewrite the master boot record to get it to boot.
