How do I copy all programs and data over to my new Win 2000 hard drive?

Just got a new WD 20 gig hard drive. Have existing 6 gig hard drive installed with three 2 gig partitions (C,D,E). I'm running Windows 2000. I was able to use Windows 2000 to partition and format the new hard drive.

How do I copy all the data and programs from my old C,D, E drives to the newly partitioned hard drive? I want the new drive to be the boot drive.

If you've used NTFS with Win2K, then you're gonna need Ghost 6.5 (released in August 2K). It the only one *I'm* aware of that supports NTFS 5.

You'll probably want to repartition the "old" drive if you still want to use it in the new system. Primary and logical partitions come in to play here. (Read about that via the lnk in my sig.)

Old hard drive has FAT partitions...new hard drive has FAT32 partitions.

Downloaded Ghost 6.0, but haven't figured out what programs to run....and even if they will work with Windows 2000...

Maybe I should just go with 6.5

The drive partitions ok...but how do I get the data, programs, hidden files copied over....

Actually I used a program called FileCopy, but for some reason it copies my D: and E: drives ok (2 gig each but less than half filled). The FileCopy programs gives false errors when copying the 1.8 gig of info on C: drive, it says the destination drive (which is 13 gig) doesn't have enough room....

Ok...I downloaded an earlier version of Ghost, but it looked a bit overwhelming....I'll download the newest version.....

Any tips on what part of Ghost to run....and any other suggestions on how to use Ghost.

Thanks

If your destination is FAT, you can use the new or old version. I use Ghost 2001 and find it too easy :)

First thing you need to do is make the "Ghost Boot Disk." It should give you 3 options, I choose the one with CD-ROM support. But if all you are going to do is transfer your O/S from one drive to another, just choose "Disk" to "Disk" option from the Ghost boot disk menu. It's that easy...

BTW: As a DOS program, GHOST.EXE can access only the partitions that DOS can access. Because DOS cannot read or write directly to NTFS partitions, Ghost cannot store images on a local NTFS partition.

With Ghost 6.04 and earlier, you can store images on NTFS partitions on network drives provided you use NetBIOS to access the network drive, or you have a version of Ghost that supports multicasting. This is possible because DOS can access NTFS partitions on network drives when NetBIOS is running, or when the drive has been mapped with network client software.

For my Win2K machine, I have a FAT16 partition that I only use for Ghost image files. And also burn to a CD-R for an extra means of protection.
