I work in a fairly small office, doing graphic design. Most of our production work is done on Macs. Currently, I've got a beige g3 266. It's slow as hell. Any tips on getting me a new G4? Anyone in here convince thier boss to upgrade thier machine?

Just go into his/her office with enough justification and ask.

As long as you can justify it it shouldn't be a problem.

You know how my boss was convinced? She sat behind my desk one day to look at a website I wanted her to see. Her exact quote

"Damn, this thing is slow."

Of course I took the initivate to point out the falling prices of hardware :D

Now I have a MP, mobo, ram, case, video card and hard drive on the way ;)

Woot!

Russ

When will you start whining for a quad setup?

If you can document your increased productivity by having a faster system, and possible trickle down improvements, then put it in front of your boss.

My work computer is a PII 400 with a Diamond Fire GL 1000 Pro video card. Don't let the name fool you, it's over 3 years old and only has 8 MB of memory. Well, sometimes it does. ;)
Sometimes it boots up and says it's a 4 MB card and I get strange white snow on my screen. I reboot until it comes up OK.
I have to run Pro/E on this computer once in a while, and I use Solid Works quite a bit.
Once a few years ago I had to open a huge IGES assemly file in Solid Works. It took half a day. :Q

Just be honest, and don't destroy the machine. It dosent take an idiot to find out what happened to it.
Goodluck :)

russ. hehe. funny guy. but, did you have to ask her more than once? ;) ;)

i pulled the parts off the shelf and built myself a faster pc when i needed one, i guess working in a small business that builds pcs and being in charge of the shop is a good thing sometimes.
