I've never connected an external speaker system to my AE ..........Can anyone tell me how to do this?.........the external system what I've got is a 5.1 prologic system with an amplifier.......I'm connecting the sound system to my PC coz. we've got a party in the evening.......so basically the system is for playing some good mp3s at a decent volume........Another request, any tips on how I can make the some better? like some good proggies or something?

Looking forward to your replies

The easiest way to do this would be to use a yadapter...minijack to rca.

you then use your line out(speakeroutput from the souncard) and plug in the two rca'(red and white) to a freeinput on your stereo

If your stereo has optical or digital , and i think the AE has it as well, get the coressponding cable. Actually, if you do that the y adapter will still work

The red is mono and caries any digital signals...so only the minijack to the digital out on the card, and the red to the digital in on the reciever.

have a great party

2 choices, depending on what your receiver can handle. is it prologic or dolby digital? if it's truly a 5.1 dolby digital receiver and if your soundcard has a digital (SPDIF) out, you can use an adapter to run from the digital out on the sound card to the digital in on the receiver

else, your other option is to simply get a 1/8 inch stereo male to dual female rca adapter and then run a normal rca cable from the sound cards out (where you'd normally plug in your computer speakers) to any auxiliary input on your receiver.

the digital method i first suggested will sound better, but the big question is: does your receiver have a digital in and does your soundcard have a digital out??

Thanks for the quick reply sohcrates

I really dont know what reciever it is exactly.......but it has the three following modes namely:
dolby 3-stereo
dolby prologic
theatre logic
bypass

My AE has a SPDIF output with a SPDIF cable........

does your receiver have a digital in and does your soundcard have a digital out??
Yes both of them have it

hmmm..most pro logic receivers don't have digital inputs.

sounds like your soundcard does, though, which is a good start.

you'd have to either get me a model number for the receiver or find the manual or know what a digital input looks like to know for sure if you have it on the receiver.

if you decide to go all digital, you need a 1/8 inch mono male to single female rca adapter (about 3 bucks) and a run of RCA cable to the reciever (you actually only use the one side of the cable since the source is digital (i.e. not stereo))

if you decide to go the "analog" way, you just need that adapter i mentioned above, plus a run of RCA cable again.

both methods cost about the same, but digital is a much better alternative.

but like i said, we still don't know if your receiver has a digital input!
