***How do I connect my computer to my home stereo system?

I want to hook up my computer to my TV and my Stereo, but I am unsure about how to get it all to work and still sound good. I know that this can be done but I'm not sure exactly how. Do I still need an amp for my speakers and where do I plug my computer into? What kind of video card do I need?

HELP!!!

Well, to get TV (I am assuming you want TV out to display what is on your computer to show on the TV), you would need any Video Card w/ TV Out, and paying for the quality that you want.

As for hooking up the stereo, are you wanting to use the stereos speakers as the computers I guess... I am not sure how you would go about doing this, but I do know it can be done somehow.

PC -> stereo:

Figure out if your stereo has some sort of aux input. Most do. If you want to connect via analog, you get a stereo minijack to <insert stereo connector here> cable and plug the stereo minijack end into your PC speaker output, and the other end into the stereo. A common analog connector on a stereo is RCA, which uses two connectors. The cable should be about $5.

If you want to connect via digital, which will probably give the best quality, you have to figure out if your sound card can output digitally. SBLives can. I don't know what kind of connection it uses though - the manual should have something about it. Once you get the cable and have it hooked up thru the digital output, you might have to change a setting to tell it to output digital, but probably not. Then on your stereo you select the input to play with your remote, and viola! instant home theater.

To play MP3's from the PC on the home stereo, the Audiotron is a gift from gods. It is the neatest shish ever, and my wife can even work it!

Here is the link Audiotron Link

The beauty is that it connects over cat5 or HPNA, so it can be anywhere in the house.

Sorry, they dont have a 'TV audiotron' yet. I tried using a really long s-video cable, and it seemed to work alright.

Best wishes
