How do I connect CD-ROM and CDRW to on-board audio? ?

I would like to install both a CD-ROM and CDRW and connect them to the motherboard on-board sound? Would I connect the audio of one to the CD1 connector and the other to the AUX1? Thanks.

yes that is what u need to do if you have the cables, and if u are not planning anything else to use AUX1 such as a TV card or other device.

brgds

You shouldn't need the analogue connectors, most CD-ROMs support digital Audio, plays through the IDE Connection, sound quality is much better.

Thanks for the help. redhatlinux, by IDE connection, are you referring to the same connections that the HDD, CR-ROM, etc. use? Sorry to be so dense.

Thanks again.

give me the name of a program that plays audio thru the IDE cable?

I'm installing Windows XP. I read yesterday evening that when using Plextor Manager 2000 software, an audio cable is not necessary. Unfortunately, Plextor's site states that Plextor Manager 2000 has not been upgraded to Win-XP as of this time. Does Win-XP provide the same feature? Thanks.

Windows 2000 or Windows XP 😉

I think in XP/2k, all you have to do is go into the hardware manager, find your CDRom/RW drives, go into their properties, and click on "Enable digital audio". If that's all plextors software does, you should be fine without it.

I use C-Media's Audiorack, download from their website, but as mentioned, if your CD-ROM supports Digital Audio Extraction, just about any player should work.

Digital audio works fine in XP, I dont even have a sound card, havent had one for more than two years! I have been using Microsoft's DSS80 speaker system since they first came out, started with win98, then se then 2k now XP, always worked great!
