sent a latitude to dell and they say they lost it, so they're sending a new one this week (very condensed version of story).

returned the latitude without the HDD, so when i get the new one what's the easiest way to get data from the old hdd i have? can i connect now to a pc by buying something from newegg?

So you just want to retrieve something data from the old HD, and not the entire content of the old HD right? Yeah, you can just buy a 2.5" enclosure and put the old HD in it and hook it up to the notebook.

They also make 2.5"->3.5" IDE adapters that let you hook up the drive directly to your PC. These are usually cheaper than an external enclosure (and will also let you use Norton Ghost or other low-level utilities on it).

i like it.

for about 10 bucks more from newegg this looks like it will really work.

what do you think?

I have not used that product, but I assume it works... any of the products linked to in this thread will do what you are looking for; they just include various accoutrements (in this case, an IDE->USB adapter).

http://www.compgeeks.com has 2.5 to 3.5 adapter for around $5. (can get another 10% off if it is not on special by using FATWALLET as promo code) - about $11. shipped ground after disct. Where you are, ground should get it there quick enough.
. Tried to get a link but their new site is so slow normally and this is a high-traffic time of day.
