Hi,

We have in our house about 6-8 computers 2 of them being laptops. One set of computers is on one network while the other set is on another network all within the house. Sometimes we want to transfer files amongst each other but we always end up having to ftp or send files through AIM or IRC. We were wondering if there is a way to bridge these two seperate networks together. What equipment and software would we need. By the way we both have seperate internet connections but we aren't concerned about bridging that... we just want the LANs to be bridged.

if you need any more details please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you.

Probably the easiest way would be to put two NICs in one machine and use it as a router. The two networks must be using different address blocks (they can't both be 192.168.1.X) and you'll need to set up the static routes to keep the traffic from heading out to the Internet when it should be going to the other local network.

Provide some details (LAN address ranges on both networks and what operating systems you have would be a good start) and maybe we can come up with something.

Good Luck

Thanks for replying... Right when we were going to start this project my brother lifted up the network cable and came away with a 3 foot section of cat 5 with one end chewed through .... :Q

Apparently the rodents chewed the network cable we had running below the house.... Upon further inspection I pulled the cable tv and antenna cable and both were chewed through to the metal core... Interesting ... I guess now we have to change all the wiring and possibly run some Metal tubes or pvc down the house... blahhhhh..

Sounds like you have bigger problems then your network if those rodents are eating your cabling.
