How do i configure my router to work with PPPoE?

I just got SBC Yahoo! DSL service, it uses the PPPoE protocol. I have two computers, a desktop, and a laptop. The DSL modem is connected to the Netgear FS605.

The problem I am having is that I can't get both computers to connect to the service at the same time. I have read some posts and a lot of people mention that they simply tell the router the user id and password and the router takes care of PPPoE for them. That sounds fine but I have no clue how to configure this router so that it knows the user name and password.

I installed RASPPPOE on both computers and it works fine, I just can only connect with one computer at a time. The other computer is used by my roomate so I would like to fix this if possible. Do I have to get a new router?

Unless you have the Netgear model & URL wrong, you do NOT have a router but only a network switch installed.
That box does not have any intelligence, does not support NAT does not have a "WAN" port to connect your DSL modem to and it also does not have any PPPOE functionality that would let you store the ISP's userid/pwd in it.

Your options are to get a "real" soho router box that does have all this functionality (If you want to stick with Netgear then the RP614 would be a good choice) or to choose a software solution like Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).
Better software solutions exist but are not free (Kerio winroute, wingate, sygate, ...) and all of them have the disadvantage that the 2nd pc piggybacks on the 1st pc's connection. This means that the 1st pc must always be switched on and connect to the internet before the other one can get online (unless of course that pc manually starts it's own PPPOE session but then the 1st pc can not get to the net...). For only 50$ you may want to save yourself the software hassle and get a hardware solution like the Netgear or equivalent products from D-link, Linksys or others.

Cool, thanks for the info guys. I didn't even look at the "router", my roomate bought it and told me he got a router and I didn't think to check... and he also can't find the manual, else I wouldn't be asking this question.

Your repsonses were helpful, I'll probably get a router soon so I can split the connection with my soon to be new roomate.

I used to run a ppoe DSL connection back before i got cable. In your router settings, if you enter in your username and password or use an autodetect function that some routers have, all of the computers on the network should be able to get the connection. Make sure to plug the DSL modem into the WAN port on the router. The router should automatically login to your DSL service when it is switched on. If ppoe isn't working properly for you, you might also want to try a firmware update. I hope this helps.
