How do I clone a non-windows hard drive?

I have a NAS that I believe utilizes linux partitions. I have no idea what the structure looks like. I want to upgrade the hard drive in it without losing any data. Is there any software that just clones all the partitions and sectors on the hard drive so I don't corrupt the NAS?

Thanks.

Is the drive of equal size?

You can take an image with dd and put it on the new drive, but you are going to be copying the partition table too so you will be wasting space if the other drive is larger.

If the destination is larger it would be much easier to create the partitions you need with fdisk, lay down the filesystems and then rsync the data... otherwise just dd if they're equal.

I suspect in this case it might be easier to just let the NAS device format the new drive and then copy the files to it.

Clonezilla is a little unwieldly but will probably get er done. I used Easeus Diskcopy for my latest clone project. Worth a look.

And, if you use Acronis TI 2011's Rescue Media, you can clone any drive to any drive regardless of size or OS.

update: Gawd what a pain...

I finally finished upgrading yesterday. Used clonezilla and then resized the partition using partition manager, the nas won't boot... Redid it, then had to resize everything from the NAS using telnet.

What a crappy design, the OS of the NAS resided on the Hdd.
