How do I claim dividends myself?

I have a letter from the company "US Claims Service" that wants me to pay them in order to get unclaimed assets. But how would I go about doing this myself? It seems almost like a scam, actually. But I am just curious.

It is a scam. You can go to Missing Money to search unclaimed property records from 37 states. The data there is not the most current as states provide updates to Missing Money on varying schedules. The site also provides links to individual states' UP websites. You can file inquiries directly with any state for free.

What do you mean claim dividends? If you receive stock from a holding it should simply be either transferred to a bank account or returned to the holding.

Sounds like "US Claims Service" believes the OP has some unclaimed assets, but the OP assumes it's dividends. It could be a number of possibilities.
