Ok, here is the situation. Bought bunch of new stuff for computer. Put it together and GPU not work so no video output. Now the RMA process begins on GPU, but the CPU has a 7 day return policy. Is there a way to check to see the my new q6600 is good and didn't get damaged in the install phase, uninstall phase as i was trying to figure out that is was the GPU that was bad. I'm upgrading from old AGP card to 8800 series so I don't have an old card that will work with my new Gigabyte GA-P35c-ds3r motherboard. Also, I don't have an old motherboard around that will accept this chip.
Other info: on boot I get one beep, kind of sickly, but that is it. In theory this should be a good sign that boot has gone OK, but I don't know for sure? Any thoughts? I don't really know anyone who I can borrow their computer to test in, so that is out.
Oh well, any help would be appreciated.
P.S. Also have same problem with the new SATA drives, but i should have the new GPU before their 30 day return period is over.

well, you could run out to best buy and pick up a cheap pci video card. other than that, sorry man you're gonna have to hold your breath. it's probably fine though, if you were careful it's probably not damaged, especially if you know what you're doing. it's not very common, in my experience, to fry a processor unless you were mishandling it or just doing something stupid (not grounding yourself, handling it haphazardly, dropping it down the stairs like a slinky, handling it with wet or really dirty hands, etc).

F4, LOL, Great idea about the PCI video card. Hey I bet I've got one I think. i go round one up, it has 1997 printed on in, diamond Multimedia, so i take it out of the old system and try it out in the new. Same freakin' thing. So i go back to old system, hook up monitor to old AGP which is in this box and it works. Take out AGP but the PCI video card in and nothing but a bunch of beeps in the old system, crap this card is toast also. Back to stage one.
I was careful, especially with the CPU, always use the little static bracelet things, especially with a new computer. Maybe not so much when it gets to old and I looking for an excuse to upgrade, LOL. The main concern was the cpu cooler, Tuniq tower, which ways a ton (er, 750 grams) which went on and off about 3 times, plus was a bitch to take off the adhesive back which was sticking to the back plate for the cooler mount. But, I was very gentle with that thing. Oh well, i guess I will see what is the cheapest PCI video card I can find.
Thanks for the help I will sit and hope I'm not out the CPU cost. Oh well a month ago they cost double what I paid this weekend and I was looking to buy one anyway so not end of world if I have to buy 2 and the second might be a GO stepped one.

If their is something wrong with the CPU, the motherboard will most likely alert you to that before it will beep about the Video card, There should be something in your book that came with it about the Beep codes, if you got to a beep code concerning your video card then are probably fine. however you could send an Email to your motherboard manufacturer to double check what iv said .

But i don't think the motherboard would be capable of anything other then CPU error beeps if the CPU didn't work.

Well the manual is, how do you say it, a piece of steaming crapola is the polite version. The codes are only mentioned at very end of manual and don't really seem to apply to what i get. I get about 1 second beep, sounds slurred and changing in pitch when compared to what I'm used to with other computers. But, a quick web search shows that Award Bios beeps are variable depending on manufacture. The good news is that all the beeps for a bad CPU are very distinctive and it is definitely not one of those beep codes. I may try emailing the company but I'm I doubt I will get a prompt or complete answer.

1 beep always means that the post has been succesfull. PC's can boot no problemo without a videocard, you could even install an OS without a videocard, you just gotta know where to click and when to push Enter :p So if it's 1 beep, then your ram and cpu are fine.

Well, I got my new video card from EVGA in near record time. i sent it in on Monday, and got the cross shipped card on Thursday. i did pay a little for the overnight RMA care upgrade thing, like $17. But I feel much better now as the everything boots right up, Vista installed smooth and all the other components I bought seem to be working great. So hopefully no more RMA delays and can actually enjoy the system. Thanks for the advice.
Cheers and MOO!!!

Thats not the case for most motherboards, a majority will not boot with no video card. You need CPU, Video card, and RAM to get a successful post.
